Bakhtiyor Ismoilov

If told, no one would believe it: Bakhtiyor, a tadjiquistanese, a young father, is the living proof of how multicultural, diversified and democratic the IAESTE programme is.

At Tadjiquistan he was attending the second year of the pos-doctorate at the public university of Khujand, the second biggest city of the country. At the Center of Informatics and Information Technologies – CITI – of New University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences and Technology he was doing programming.

For the first time in Portugal and also in Europe, Bakhtiyor, had never left Tadjiquistan: “My country his giving the first steps towards the capitalism, while the European countries are already technologically developed. It is an excellent opportunity to learn in a more advanced context and being able to take that knowledge and technical experience.

He had no troubles in adapting to Portuguese culture, everyone he worked with was Portuguese and he was especially amazed by the cultural differences between ways of celebration and traditional cuisine…
