Summer! Holidays, beach, Sun, relax. The last thing anybody wants for Summer is what? Work. However, that was exactly what I did, but, with a plot twist, in Tunisia! This summer I wanted to have a professional experience and at the same time get to know a new country.
There I was, again in Africa. A different Africa, this time in the Arabic world. I was welcomed by Aymen and Bilel, that took me by car to La Goulette. Right on the way I got to see the caos that is the traffic there. Traffic lights, traffic signs, blinkers, zebras? What is that?! There I had to get used to cross the street, going by moving cars, unafraid, every day.
In the internship, task were simple. From doing changes in the website to increase the visibility of the company, creating and keeping active a Facebook and LinkedIn account. I worked only in the morning, having all the afternoons free, allowing me to explore a bit of Tunis every day. To go to Medina, Habib Bourguiba avenue and so many other places.
Also during my stay there, IAESTE Tunisia organized a 5 days trip to the desert and many cities, with all the internees and volunteers. That allowed me to visit other places, try new food, new environments, new costumes and make big friendships.
How much time would it be needed to get to know the country? 1 more month, 1 year, 1 life time? I still don’t have an answer, and I don’t think I’ll ever have. To me it is to know the good and bad, to life their routine, to live the people. However, even all that is in constant transformation. But nothing stops us to go to a different village, city, country and experience something different. Even in our own country. And, in the end of each trip, we only have left to remain in our hearts the emotions that we lived in a certain place, during a certain time, with that group of people and the lessons we learned with that experience.
